After completing his residency, he began his surgical training at Concord Hospital in 2002. He gained selection onto the Australian Orthopaedic Association training program in 2006 and completed his training in 2010 with Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
Dr. Sungaran undertook further subspecialty training in Hand, Wrist and Microsurgery over 18 months. He was awarded the Johnson & Johnson Postgraduate Medical Research Scholarship to complete his Masters in Advanced Surgery at Macquarie University Hospital in 2011. The main focus being arthroscopic wrist surgery, peripheral nerve surgery and complex carpal and wrist fracture management. He then travelled overseas to gain further experience in Microsurgery under Prof. Tu Yun-Kuan at the E-Da Hospital in Taiwan. This unit is a major tertiary referral hospital for brachial plexus surgery and rehabilitation.
