Dr Imre Hunyor completed his graduate medical degree with honours at the University of Sydney following a degree in Advanced Science. He was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship and following his internship completed his doctorate at the University of Oxford under the supervision of Professor Stefan Neubauer. He was based in the department of Cardiovascular Medicine at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics. His subsequent postgraduate training in cardiology and subspecialty training in Cardiac MRI was at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.

Dr Hunyor's primary clinical and research interests include the application of novel imaging methods to help with the early detection and monitoring of cardiac disease. His doctoral research focused on mechanisms of impaired energetics leading to heart failure. He developed an interest in cardiac imaging (specifically MRI) as a powerful tool to non-invasively interrogate the heart's structure, function and biochemistry.

Dr Hunyor is a Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Sydney Medical School. He is also heavily involved in the training of physicians at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. As a Staff Specialist Cardiologist and Clinical Superintendent he runs the teaching program for Basic Physician Trainees and is an Examiner for the RACP.
