Dr Hugo Fernandes is an AGES accredited Advanced Laparoscopic Surgeon and Gynaecologist with specialist training in Infertility and IVF. He specializes in the treatment of infertility associated with surgical conditions such as endometriosis, adenomyosis, heavy bleeding and uterine fibroids.
Hugo graduated from Monash University in 2003. He undertook his specialist training at Monash Medical Centre with a primary focus on gynaecology, open and laparoscopic surgery including an accredited rotation in Colorectal and General Surgery. He completed his training as an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in 2011.
Hugo went on to complete a formal two year Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery Fellowship at The Royal Women’s Hospital, Melbourne and was the first AGES accredited Laparoscopic Fellow. In 2013 he was awarded the prestigious David Healy Memorial AGES Travelling Fellowship and travelled to Europe and the United States for further training.
Hugo is involved in several research projects and has presented locally and internationally on the area of Adenomyosis and infertility. He is an examiner and lecturer at Monash University and a RANZCOG training supervisor. He is himself completing a Masters in Reproductive Medicine at the University of New South Wales.
Hugo is interested in all aspects of gynaecology and in particularly endometriosis, adenomyosis, complex laparoscopic surgery, polycystic ovarian syndrome, menstrual management and operative hysteroscopy and the impact on fertility. Hugo holds prestigious consultant positions on two endoscopic units at both The Royal Women’s Hospital and Monash Health.
