Hsien has been a Dermatologist in the Northern Rivers area since 2017. He grew up in Perth and completed medical training there prior to receiving a Monash Scholarship to study for a DPhil in Clinical Immunology at the University of Oxford. His subsequent Dermatology specialty training was in NSW. As a medical student, Hsien carried out his John Flynn Rural Health Scholarship at the University Centre for Rural Health, Lismore.

Hsien has a particular interest in the early diagnosis and management of skin cancers and the management of inflammatory skin conditions. He has recently completed a Confocal Microscopy Fellowship at the Melanoma Institute of Australia. He is a Dermatology Staff Specialist at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, Brisbane, where he runs the Confocal Microscopy Clinic for the non invasive diagnosis and mapping of Lentigo Maligna and atypical melanocytic lesions.

Previously he was a Staff Specialist Dermatologist at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital where he co-ordinated the Solid Organ Transplant Dermatology Clinic.

He is also a co-author of the recently updated Cancer Council Clinical Practice Guidelines for Keratinocyte Cancer and has published research articles on a wide variety of Dermatological conditions. He has undertaken Post Doctoral Research Fellowships at the Centenary Institute and the Charles Perkins Centre, and is a Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Sydney School of Medicine.
