Dr Howard Tang came to Australia as a 5 year old from Hong Kong and has since been able to maintain his Chinese language skills and improved his English as well. He went to Wesley when it was still a boys only school and graduated with Honours from Monash Medical School in 1987.
He then completed his Gastroenterology training in 1996 from the Alfred Hospital and was fortunate to be granted a Queen Elizabeth Fellowship to England to broaden his Hepatology experience.
One year later he went on a scholarship across the Atlantic, to Charleston South Carolina where he worked with endoscopic legends Peter Cotton and Robert Hawes to hone his skills in ERCP and therapeutic endoscopy. Since returning to Australia, he holds a public appointment at the Alfred Hospital as one of the senior visiting medical staff.
Howard lives in Camberwell and is married with two young children. He relaxes by heading to the Gippsland lakes to catch bream and waiting patiently for his beloved Saints to deliver a Premiership.
Howard has a broad Gastroenterology interest including managment of viral hepatitis, functional bowel disease, inflammatory bowel disease , ERCP and therapeutic endoscopy.
