Dr Heather Courtney was born and schooled in Northern Ireland and graduated from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland in 1998 with her medical degree and Batchelor of Science (Honours) in Pharmacology. After working in the UK for 18 months she moved to Australia in 2000, initially working in Bundaberg and then moved to the Sunshine Coast to work at Nambour General Hospital. Here she continued her inhospital training before returning to Northern Ireland to complete her GP training, becoming a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners and a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitoners in 2005. Heather has been working as a GP on the Sunshine Coast since then. Heather now offers Mirena IUD contraception services to women on the Sunshine Coast. Heather really enjoys her job and the variety of specialities within it . "I love that every day is different and I find the continuity of care of my patients, getting to know them and their families very satisfying". She is married with 3 children, a self confessed exercise and health fanatic who enjoys running, walking, cycling, the great outdoors, spending time with her family and travel.
