I was born in Perth and grew up here enjoying the outdoor lifestyle, particularly sailing and windsurfing.
I received my medical degree in 1983 from the University of Western Australia. I then worked at Royal Perth Hospital in 1984 and 1985 and at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in 1986 as a registrar in psychiatry. In late 1986, I moved to the US, where I completed an MBA at Stanford University. I then spent the next 25 years or so working on translating the latest research into new therapies for patients suffering from hard-to-treat medical conditions.
I recently moved back to Perth with my wife Laura and our two children. Laura and I decided that we want our kids to grow up with Australia accents. I am very happy to be working at the Jindalee Medical Center, which is an excellent team of doctors and nurses, all of us working to bring the latest medical advances to patients in this rapidly growing area of Perth.
