Sarwar (preferred name) is a dual trained General and Respiratory physician. After graduating from King Edward Medical College in Lahore Pakistan in 2006, he worked for three years in a large tertiary referral hospital in Pakistan before moving to Australia in 2009. He undertook his post graduate training in Brisbane and at the John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle, completing his specialty training in 2016. After obtaining his specialty qualifications, he undertook a further year of training at the Flinders Medical Centre in Adelaide as a Respiratory Fellow in 2017. His current clinical appointments include part-time Staff Specialist in General Medicine at John Hunter Hospital along with Visiting Respiratory Physician to Lake Macquarie Private Hospital and Newcastle Private Hospital. His academic appointment includes Conjoint Fellow with The University of Newcastle. He has strong affiliation with Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand (TSANZ). He is an elected Convener of Evidence Based Medicine, Speciality Interest Group (SIG) of TSANZ. In addition to General Medicine, his interests are General Respiratory Medicine, lung cancer, interventional bronchoscopy and pleural diseases.
