Dr Geoff Askin joined BrizBrain & Spine in February 2014 and brings to the group extensive knowledge in the area of paediatric and adult spinal surgery. Dr Askin graduated from the University of Queensland and completed his Spinal Fellowship in the UK, Germany and Switzerland in 1989. In 1990 Dr Askin was appointed Director of Orthopaedics at the Princess Alexandra Hospital specialising in spinal surgery. In 1992 Dr Askin went into private practice whilst still maintaining his public appointments with the PA and Mater hospitals. Now based in the Mater Hospital precinct, Dr Askin consults at the Mater Private Clinic and operates at the Mater Private Hospital and Mater Private Children’s Hospital. He is also a senior visiting spine surgeon at the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital Spine Disorder Unit. Dr Geoff Askin is an orthopaedic spine specialist and solely focuses on adult and paediatric spinal surgery. He has particular special interests in: Minimally invasive scoliosis surgery Spinal tumours Scoliosis Degenerative conditions of the spine Academically, Dr Askin holds several positions including Research Director at QUT/Mater Paediatric Spine Research Group, Adjunct Professor with the School of Chemistry, Physics and Mechanical Engineering at QUT, and Associate Professor with the UQ School of Medicine. He remains active in research, with a particular research interest in paediatric spinal deformity.
