Gareth obtained his medical degree in the UK at Manchester University and undertook his surgical training in Birmingham. His orthopaedic training was based at the internationally renowned Royal Orthopaedic Hospital and he was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2007.

He gained advanced training in hip and knee replacement as the Perth Allograft Fellow and then the Fremantle Arthroplasty Fellow in WA under the supervision of Professor David Wood and Professor Piers Yates. He returned to Birmingham to complete a further fellowship in hip joint preserving surgery in the young adult under the supervision of Mr John O’Hara.

He was appointed consultant orthopaedic and trauma Surgeon at Fremantle and Armadale Hospitals in 2008. Having committed to orthopaedic surgery in Australia he gained Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2012.

Gareth is very enthusiastic about education and is involved in the orthopaedic registrars training programme as well as teaching undergraduates. He has been awarded the post of Associate Professor from the University of Western Australia in recognition of his commitment to medical student teaching. He is regularly invited to teach on local, national and international courses for other orthopaedic surgeons.

He has published multiple peer-reviewed articles and presents regularly at local, national and international meetings (see my publications). He is a member of the Australasian and British Orthopaedic Associations and has recently been appointed as joint head of the orthopaedic department at Fiona Stanley Hospital.
