Dr Niesche graduated from Sydney University in 1961 and subsequently specialised in Surgery becoming a Fellow of both the English and Australasian Colleges of Surgeons. Dr Niesche was a member of the steering committee which set up Sydney Breast Clinic in 1978 (previously Sydney Square Breast Clinic) and has been associated with the Clinic ever since.
