Barbara graduated from University of Queensland in 1976. She then worked as Resident Medical Officer in Townsville, Redcliffe, Maryborough and Christchurch Hospitals. She worked in General Practice in Brisbane, and Family Planning Clinics in Christchurch, Ipswich and Fortitude Valley, completing her Family Planning Certificate in 1982. In 1988 Barbara adopted her family's General Practice in Yeronga and worked as a solo General Practitioner for 17 years until 2005. Barbara has worked predominantly in Women's Health in Brisbane since 2005. She had two children born in 1979, and 1982. Outside of work life, Barbara enjoys reading, listening to Triple J, attending concerts and comedy; she swims and plays tennis weekly, attends gym, and is a member of a relaxed bush walking club,where the goal is to "show up" on Sundays.
