Dr Emma Walters is a specialist anaesthetist with the Narcosia Anaesthesia Group.
Dr Walters grew up in Brisbane and graduated MBBS from the University of Queensland in 2005. She completed specialist training in anaesthesia at the Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital, Redcliffe and Prince Charles Hospitals, culminating in a fellowship in obstetric anaesthesia. Her training included 12 months in Indianapolis, USA at the Indiana University School of Medicine, where she developed expertise in obstetric anaesthesia and invaluable experience in transplant and pediatric practice. On returning to Brisbane and being admitted as a fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA), Dr Walters commenced in full-time public practice at The Prince Charles Hospital and subsequently Redcliffe Hospital.
Dr Walters began in private practice with Narcosia Anaesthesia Group in 2014. Beyond her specific interests and expertise in obstetric anaesthesia, Dr Walters’ practice encompasses a variety of anaesthesia subspecialties, including plastic surgery, gynaecology and fertility, and tailored sedation for gastrointestinal endoscopy and minor procedures. She provides obstetric anaesthesia care at the Wesley Hospital, the Mater Mothers’ Private Hospital and North West Private Hospital, and in person consultations prior to childbirth for women seeking information about obstetric analgesia and spinal anaesthesia for caesarean section.
Dr Walters has an active interest in teaching and tutors medical students at the Wesley Hospital. She is a regular presenter at educational events including College of Anaesthetists exam preparation courses, practice examinations and lecture series.
Dr Walters balances her busy practice with a busy home life. She has 4 children, her husband is an academic gastroenterologist, and she spends much of her spare time enjoying health and fitness activities including trail running and swimming.
