Dr Emma Lyster studied a science degree (with a double major in psychology) and later postgraduate medicine at UQ Brisbane. Her first medical job was as an intern and then resident doctor at the Townsville Hospital from 2005-2007. Besides her GP fellowship Emma has also completed an Australian Diploma of Dermatology, Diploma of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Certificate in Sexual Health and Family Planning and various certificates in skin cancer medicine and dermoscopy. She is currently working towards a Diploma in Child Health through the Westmead Hospital in Sydney.
Emma enjoys all aspects of family medicine but has particular interests in women’s health, shared antental care, paediatrics and dermatology. As a young(ish) mother herself, Emma especially appreciates the joys and challenges that caring for young children brings to her life. Besides her GP work Emma also does some private surgical assisting at the Mater Hospital.
When not at work Emma can be found chasing around after her two young kids, occassionally puffing her way up Castle Hill and moonlighting in her other jobs as a marriage celebrant. She has a warm and open personality and very much enjoys getting to know her patients and their families.
