Dr Elizabeth Middebrook has extensive experience in general practice. She studied at the University of NSW, and was attracted to general practice – the breadth of the discipline, it’s whole person approach, and whole of life focus suited her own values and interests. In her early years she practiced in Western Sydney and child preventative health in England. Returning to Australia, she worked in the Blue Mountains and established her own practice. While in the Blue Mountains, she raised her own family, a son and a daughter, now grown up, with their own families. She later practiced in the Southern Highlands for some years before joining East Maitland Family Medical Centre in 2003. She gained her Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practice in 1999 and her Master of Medical Science in Clinical Epidemiology at University of Newcastle in 2003. Elizabeth’s areas of professional interest in general practice are as broad as general practice itself – young/old, acute/chronic, simple/complex. She likes to take a preventative approach, maximising each individual patient’s health state. She encourages patients towards best achievable health, at whatever stage of life, or level of health they are currently experiencing. Elizabeth also has an interest in hypnosis as a tool for changing behaviour and moving toward better health, both physical and psychological. She has had hypnosis training in a number of areas: smoking cessation, weight management, menopause relief, and mental health issues including depression, anxiety, fears, phobias and trauma. In her free time, Elizabeth walks, swims, sings in a choir and enjoys hands-on involvement in family life with her elderly parents, her daughter and her primary school-aged granddaughter.
