Dr Eli Olschewski (Orthopaedic Surgeon)

Dr Olschewski specializes in hip, knee and shoulder surgery, including sports medicine, primary and revision joint replacement surgery, and trauma. He has a special interest in using minimally invasive, computer assisted and laser guided surgical techniques to optimise his patients’ outcomes.

Dr Olschewski completed a Bachelor of Science degree at Queen’s University, Kingston, Canada, in 1993 before graduating from medical school at the University of Toronto in 1997. He was then accepted into Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Calgary where he was Chief Resident when he completed his training in 2002. During that time he won several awards, including the Award of Merit for Residents in Surgery. Subsequent to this, Dr Olschewski completed subspecialty orthopaedic fellowships at the Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney, The Sydney Shoulder Research Institute, Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto and the Whitlam Joint Centre in Sydney, where he refined his skills in hip, knee and shoulder reconstruction. These fellowships provided opportunities to work with world renowned surgeons and learn state of the art techniques.

Dr Olschewski is a Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Sydney and is actively involved in the training of Orthopaedic Registrars and the teaching of medical students. He has co-authored research articles in peer reviewed arthroplasty, trauma and surgical journals. He has presented at local, national and international meetings. . He was an invited guest on the television show “DYK?” (“Did You Know?”), in Massachusetts, U.S.A. where he discussed current orthopaedic topics. He maintains an interest in clinical research.

Dr Olschewski is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is also a member of the AO Trauma Association.

Dr Olschewski practised orthopaedic surgery in suburban Boston, U.S.A., before returning to Sydney to be close to family. He is married with 3 children. When not working, he enjoys coaching children’s soccer, having previously played for the Calgary Eagles, of the Alberta Major Soccer League in Canada.
