Dr Rafter was raised in Spain by her Irish father and Australian mother. She studied medicine at Edinburgh University and then completed her GP training in England and Scotland. After brief stints of work in Honduras, South Africa and Liverpool, Dr Rafter came to Cairns in 1998. The outdoor lifestyle (and the arrival of two children) have kept her here ever since. Dr Rafter possesses a particular interest in Women’s health (especially antenatal and postnatal care) and Indigenous health. Dr Rafter feels that a holistic approach and preventative approach to healthcare is important, as well as educating individuals about their health issues. Having been raised in Spain, Dr Rafter speaks Spanish as a second language.
