Dr. Azar is a specialist cataract surgeon with considerable expertise in all aspects of cataract surgery as well as the treatment of macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, glaucoma, and eyelid disorders. Dr. Azar is fluent in Arabic.
Dr. Azar is the Head of the Department of Ophthalmology at Concord Repatriation General Hospital, Sydney, and Clinical Senior Lecturer at Sydney Medical School, The University of Sydney.
Dr. Azar teaches current and future cataract surgeons advanced techniques and approaches to managing routine and complex cataract surgical challenges. He is also internationally-recognised in the area of cataract surgery and has extended his teaching to the international arena. He has visited many international eye clinics in cities such as New York, Moscow, Delhi, Mexico City, Buenos Aires, Rio De Janeiro, Ho Chi Minh City, San Francisco, Beijing, Istanbul, Budapest, and Cape Town.
Dr. Azar is a Fellow of the Australian & New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists, a member of the American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons, a Board Member of the Governing Body of the Statewide Ophthalmology Service, and a member of the Australian Medical Association.
