Dr Devora Lieberman’s passion is helping people who have been challenged by infertility. She understands that many people she sees have tried other options and need her persistence and support to try to achieve a pregnancy and a healthy baby.

Focusing on improving embryo quality through the use of evidence-based traditional and new techniques in a supportive environment, Devora goes above and beyond the usual to maximise chances for success.

Devora also helps many people who have experienced recurrent miscarriage or IVF failure. She is one of the principal doctors in Genea's Miscarriage Management Program and bases her fertility practice in Sydney’s CBD at Martin Place.

Perceiving the loneliness, helplessness and frustration felt by people experiencing infertility is what motivated Devora to team up with life coach Claire Hall to write Empowered Fertility – a practical 12 step guide.

Enabling women to take charge of their reproductive health was the motivation for Devora to focus on fertility from the very start of her medical career. In recent years, egg freezing technology has progressed to allow women who, for whatever reason, aren’t ready to start a family, to try to preserve their fertility. Devora is a strong advocate for women to make an informed choice about whether egg freezing is right for them. She can explain the facts and dispel the fictions about this important issue.

Devora studied medicine at the State University of New York and received her Master of Public Health degree from Harvard. Devora joined Genea in 2003 after several years as Associate Medical Director in Women's Health at pharmaceutical company Organon Australia (now MSD), where she was responsible for the company's contraception, HRT and pro-fertility products. At Organon, Devora was involved in the Australian introduction of a pen device for follicle-stimulating hormone delivery and educated fertility doctors about a new type of stimulation regimen using gonadotrophin-releasing hormone antagonists.

Devora has been a Visiting Medical Officer at Royal North Shore Hospital's Menopause Clinic since 1998 and has long-standing involvement in many professional organisations. She is currently President of Family Planning NSW, a past President of Sexual Health and Family Planning Australia and was a director of the Fertility Society of Australia for eight years until 2013. Devora has presented at regional and national conferences and has contributed to textbooks and several peer-reviewed publications.

Devora moved to Australia from Boston, Massachusetts, USA, in 1998, when her fiancé told her: "There's no surf in Boston Harbor". At the time she was a lecturer in obstetrics and gynaecology at Harvard Medical School.

Consultations with Devora do not take place across a desk, instead she prefers to sit around a table with her patients, having open discussions and collaborating on the best solutions. Devora also welcomes ongoing contact and is happy to respond via email or phone to any questions or concerns that come up between appointments.
