David Winkle is a senior urological surgeon working at the Mater Children's Hospital, Lady Cilento Children's Hospital, the Mater Private Hospital, and Mater Adults Hospital. He trained in Australia and in the United Kingdom and commenced practice, both publically and privately in 1992 at the Mater Hospitals complex. He is an examiner for the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and is currently President of the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand. Dr Winkle has an interest in: paediatric and adult reconstructive surgery; voiding dysfunction and the neuropathic bladder; major reconstructive surgery of bladder and urethra; renal stone disease; laparoscopic surgery with respect to urological reconstruction. Dr Winkle received his medical education at the University of Queensland, graduating in 1978. Following urological training in Australia, he became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 1989 and was awarded the Australasian Travelling Fellowship in Urology. Post fellowship training was as a Senior Registrar in Urology at the Institute of Urology in London and subsequently as Fellow in Paediatric Urology at Bristol Hospital for Sick Children. Dr Winkle was appointed in 1992 as Consultant Urologist at the Mater Adult Hospital and the then Mater Children's Hospital, South Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. His specific medical interests relate to paediatric reconstructive surgeries, particularly those involving the neuropathic bladder; adult reconstructive surgery including management of urethral stricture disease; management of male urinary incontinence (particularly as that relates to the post radical prostatectomy patient), and neo bladder construction. He is involved in the management of both paediatric and adult patients with urinary stone disease and this has primarily been within the context of endourology. Dr Winkle is the Past President of the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand and holds a number of positions within that Society. He is a Senior Lecturer in Surgery at the University of Queensland and an Examiner for the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
