David has had experience in several roles over his 27 year career.
After graduating from the University of Newcastle in 1990, he worked for 4 years in the hospitals of the Hunter valley. In 1994 he became a partner in a medical practice on the north coast of New South Wales. For 10 years enjoyed being part of the local community, sharing in the after hours emergency roster at the local hospital as well as running his own practice.
David feels deeply that community service is an important part of medicine. He has done this in several ways. He spent 13 years as a member of the Australian Defence Force as a medical officer, doing several deployments overseas. He was decorated for bravery in 2004 while working for the RAAF in Timor-Leste.
In 2005, David started specialist emergency medicine training at several different hospitals in Sydney. He completed 11 years of training. In 2016, he chose to return to full-time general practice, his main interest and to spend more time with his family.
David consults to several community organisations on a voluntary basis. He is an examiner for the RACGP and an expert reviewer for the Australian Family Physician journal in emergency medicine. He is also assisting several community organisations whose area of interest is end of life issues.
He is actively involved in selecting, supervising, teaching and assessing GP registrars. This is both for the practice and the GP Colleges.
He is a keen SCUBA diver having dived all over the world. He also teaches Karate and Self-Defence.
