Dr David Hartman specialises in child, adolescent and young adult mental health (aged 8 to 25), mood disorders, anxiety disorders, early intervention with psychosis and personalty disorders, and autism spectrum disorders. He has a particular interest in working with teenagers, particularly with young people with severe mental health problems associated with suicidal behaviour, deliberate self harm, psychosis or violence. Dr Hartman provides holistic mental health care including psychotherapy, working with families and medication management. Prior to moving to Townsville in 2003, he studied and worked in South Africa and London. Since living in Townsville, Dr Hartman has worked extensively in public health, which includes Clinical Director, Child Adolescent and Young Adult Mental Health Services, Townsville from 2008 until 2014. Since 2008, Dr Hartman has been an Adjunct Associate Professor at James Cook University and continues to be involved in the supervision, teaching and training of medical students, junior Psychiatrists and other mental health professionals.
