David Dowling has been practicing high-quality primary care at the Capalaba Medical Centre for over twenty years. Dr Dowling is a compassionate and thorough provider who takes the time to get to know his patients’ unique needs and backgrounds. This is reflected with him investing deeply in the long-term relationships with his patients, and allows him to care for his patients throughout all stages of their lives. Unfortunately this does mean he is often booked out in advance as he continues to care for his long-term patients. Currently his books are closed to new patients however exceptions can be made for friends and relatives of his current patients.

Although you might not class him as a “wellness warrior’, Dr Dowling focuses on helping prevent illnesses such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes. He also assists patients to identify and achieve their most ambitious health goals. He guides each patient to shape their decisions around what works best for their own unique lives and helps them change their lifestyles to reduce their risk of disease. From managing complex illnesses to inspiring healthier lifestyles, he strives to create strong partnerships with his patients. He takes an evidence-based approach to care, identifying patients’ health issues and monitoring the progress of their treatments.

In many respects, Dr Dowling is a life coach and ‘well-being consultant’ for his patients. Unlike many other so called ‘well-being consultants’, Dr Dowling graduated from the University of Queensland in 1990, and obtained his fellowship to Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 1996. He is an accredited specialist General Practitioner who enjoys all aspects of family medicine and primary care. With over twenty years of experience in treating a wide variety of primary health concerns and chronic conditions, he understands the challenges of prioritising health in today’s busy world and the complexity of modern medicine.

In keeping with his well-being mantra Dr Dowling will frequently use a sitting/standing desk. If this makes you uncomfortable, please advise him, and he will sit during the consultation. After-hours Dr Dowling is kept busy looking after his six children, with help from his wife, Dr Therese Baker. When he has free time he tries to squeeze in some exercise and yoga.
