Dr Chin is a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon specialising in skin cancers (particularly melanoma), head and neck surgery, hand surgery, Dupuytren's disease, keliod scars, laser and breast surgery. Dr Chin was educated in Dublin, Ireland and graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1988. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. His higher degrees include a Masters of Surgery in breast cancer surgery from University College Dublin and a Dean’s List PhD in Plastic Surgery from the University of Queensland.
In 1994, he started his plastic surgery training in Dublin, Ireland and in 1996, Canniesburn Hospital, Glasgow, Scotland. This was followed by a 22 month Hand Fellowship in The Princess Alexandra Hospital in 1998. He then returned to Dublin in 2000 to complete his training with Mr. James Small and Mr. Michael Earley in The National Craniofacial and Congenital Hand unit in the Mater Hospital and The Temple Street Children’s Hospital in Dublin.
He returned to Brisbane in 2001 to complete his PhD and in 2003 resumed clinical work as a Senior Lecturer for the Head and Neck Unit and as a Plastic Fellow/Research in the Princess Alexandra Hospital. Dr Chin pursues research at QIMR and is a Visiting Scientist at its Melanoma Genomic Group and The Drug Discovery Group. Dr Chin’s research interests include wound healing and the prevention of cancer from spreading in skin, head and neck cancers.
