After graduating from the University of Adelaide in 1976 and completing two years of hospital rotations in Adelaide, Bruce worked in Scotland gaining his Obstetric Diploma. On his return to Australia he worked for 20 years in a seven doctor practice in Loxton, a small town in rural SA.  He moved with his family to NSW in 2003 to support his daughter Sophie with her swimming where she trained with swim coach Greg Salter in Kingscliff. After working in Banora Point for seven years he spent three years doing rural locum work in NSW and QLD. He and his wife resettled in Kingscliff mid 2012. Bruce has an interest in Aboriginal Health and will continue to work two days at Bugalwena General Practice. Working at The Tweed health for Everyone sees Bruce reunite with Drs Soden, Blankensee and Sterne with whom he previously worked in Banora. Bruce is an inaugural Fellow of the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine. He is married with 4 adult children and enjoys the Tweed Coast lifestyle.
