Dr. Bert Pruim has been in private dermatology practice in Maroochydore on Queensland's Sunshine Coast since early 2005. Dr. Pruim specialises in surgery & surgery-free skin cancer treatments, including the treatment of malignant melanoma & other forms of skin cancer. In addition, Dr. Pruim specialises in 'Light treatments' including 'photodynamic therapy' for skin cancer and 'phototherapy' for rashes including psoriasis and eczema. From 2000 - 2004, Dr. Pruim was the only Dermatologist resident in the Northern Territory.
He completed many years of specialist exams & training to become a Fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists in late 1999. In 1997, at the same time as furthering his specialist training, he completed his Master of Medical Science degree with a thesis on 'Photobiological Aspects of Sunscreen Re-application' at the Queensland Institute of Medical Research.
Dr. Pruim was the first person in the world to scientifically show that regular re-application of sunscreen works to better prevent sunburn.
Dr. Pruim started his specialist dermatology training in Brisbane's major hospitals in 1994. He completed medical school at the University of Queensland at the end of 1990. Dr. Pruim grew up on the Sunshine Coast where he completed his highschool in Maroochydore in 1984.
