Growing up in and around Ayr in North Queensland, Dr Ben Chapman has always enjoyed small town life, and has volunteered countless hours with community organizations. He has been Camp Doctor for Camp Quality North Queensland for the last 3 years, providing medical care and fun therapy to children living with and affected by cancer. Ben’s involvement with Camp Quality is also a personal one, stemming from his own battle with leukaemia at age 9. It was also this experience which gave him his initial glimpse into the world of medicine and in part inspired him to consider training as a doctor and fostering his interest in family medicine.
Dr Chapman also volunteers his time with St John Ambulance, being the Divisional Superintendent for Mackay since 2007. This role has involved, amongst other things, provision of First Aid Services at sporting and community events, camp-drafting and BMX carnivals and has been instrumental in fostering Ben’s special interest in the area of sports medicine.
