Dr Athula Karu is a consultant Cardiologist at Perth Cardiovascular Institute and Royal Perth Hospital. He currently consults from our Joondalup and Nedlands sites and maintains a regular involvement in the on-call rosters at Hollywood Private Hospital, Joondalup Health Campus and Royal Perth Hospital. Dr Karu is a visiting consultant at the high risk perioperative cardiac assessment clinic at the Royal Perth Hospital and has a keen interest in preoperative pre-anaesthetic care.
In addition to his clinical appointments, he is the Director of Physician Education in Medicine at the Royal Perth Hospital and enjoys his involvement in the training of local aspiring junior doctors and physicians.
Athula plays an active role in raising public awareness in cardiac health issues. This includes taking time out to participate in a health discussion forum on Curtin FM 100.1 public radio station.
