Dr Anthony Samuels is a Forensic and General Adult Psychiatrist. He is currently District Clinical Director of Psychiatry in a large regional mental health service in NSW. He is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of NSW, Rural Clinical School and has numerous publications in the areas of Deliberate Self Harm and Forensic psychiatry. Dr Samuels has been a member of the RANZCP Committee for Examination and continues to be very involved in the training of Psychiatrists.

Dr Samuels was formerly Clinical Director Mental Health, Justice Health based at Long Bay Forensic Hospital and has extensive experience in all areas of Criminal Forensic Psychiatry. Dr Samuels regularly provides expert testimony in Federal Courts, NSW Supreme and District Courts, Coroners Court and NCAT.

Dr Samuels provides expert opinion in relation to Forensic Criminal and Civil Tort matters at his private rooms in St Leonards and Macquarie St, Sydney. His areas of Clinical interest include Depression, Anxiety, Psychosis, Personality Disorder and General Hospital Psychiatry.

Dr Samuels has particular expertise in the the assessment of impairment in health professionals, police and emergency workers. He is a Council Appointed Psychiatrist to the Health Professional Councils, AHPRA and Veterinary Board of NSW. He provides advice to the NSW Police Safety Command and NSW Ambulance and Fire Services. He has provided expert advice to the NSW Coroner and has participated in a number of expert conclaves in a number of jurisdictions. He has provided expert testimony in cases involving various Medical Specialist Colleges. He has provided expert opinion to major legal firms in regard to a number of significant class actions. He regularly provides expert opinion to the Health Care Complaints Commission as well as in matters involving worker’s compensation, motor accidents and medical negligence.
