He first worked in Cairns at the Cairns Base Hospital in 1990. He returned in 1998 and has since been working full time in general practice on the south side of Cairns. His roots in Cairns go deeper, with his wife’s family history in Cairns extending back 5 generations. He graduated in medicine and surgery from the University of Adelaide in 1987. He spent a number of years gaining experience in various Adelaide hospitals. He also pursued an interest in Orthopaedic Surgery, including a year at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in London, UK in 1994. However, he returned to the study of general medical practice and gained Fellowship of the RACGP in 1998. He had a special interest in Sports Medicine and is immersed in the sporting pursuits of the Cairns community, from junior to elite competitors. This includes work as Team Doctor for the Northern Pride QRL and Brothers Rugby League teams, Cairns Taipans and Marlins/Dolphins Basketball teams and Saints Swimming Club. He remains passionate about all facets of family medicine, from birth to death, and provides a wide range of general medical services and experience in a holistic and compassionate manner. He is dedicated to the education of the next generation of doctors and GPs, and mentors medical students from JCU and GP trainees from TMT. When he does get some free time he unwinds with his family, friends and pets.
