Dr Anna Suraev (Clinical Psychologist)

Anna has a warm, genuine, and non-judgemental approach in her work. She places great importance on creating a safe and supportive therapeutic space for her clients to explore some of their thoughts, feelings and experiences. Anna enjoys working collaboratively with individuals to help them shift unhelpful thinking and behavioural patterns to find betters ways of managing their difficulties and improving their lives. Anna assists her clients to nurture self-acceptance and understanding, feel more empowered, better engage with their values and develop their full potential. Anna is very passionate about helping individuals achieve their personal recovery goals, increase their coping skills set and enhance their quality of life and well being. Anna has experience in working with young people and adults with a wide range of issues, with particular interest and expertise in addressing:

• Anxiety – worry, panic attacks, social anxiety • Depression • Eating disorder treament (particularly Anorexia Nervosa) • Body image issues • Binge eating • Emotional instability • Self-esteem problems • Stress management • Dissociative and depersonalisation states • Relationship and interpersonal difficulties • Trauma • Psychosis • Grief and loss

Anna has completed a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) and a Doctor of Clinical Psychology degree. She has gained a wealth of knowledge and experience having worked across a number of public and private health settings including hospitals, outpatient community-based services, and private practice. Most recently, Anna has worked at Northside West Clinic on the reputable Eating Disorders inpatient unit. She has received supervision from a range of skilled clinicians. Anna has experience conducting group therapy sessions as well as one-on-one therapy. Anna completed her Doctoral research project in the area of cognitive functioning in schizophrenia and her research manuscript was recently published in the Journal of Abnormal Psychology in 2015.

Anna has specialised training in delivering a number of evidence-based treatment modalities including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for Eating Disorders (CBT-E), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), mindfulness-based therapies, and Motivational Interviewing (MI).
