I am conscious that coming to see a psychologist can be a difficult and stressful time as most people feel vulnerable. Sometimes individuals have experienced some very painful events. I try and offer people a safe space to explore their inner lives. I believe that all individuals have resources. It is a privilege for me to listen to people's stories and to see that in time these resources are mobilised. In my work I explore the interaction between people's earlier lives and how they are feeling now, and help people to feel compassion for themselves. The core of the work is in helping people to become better friends to themselves. I have experience in loss and grief and trauma, in debriefing after traumatic events and in serious illness and disability and the impact on the family. I am also nurse trained. I also teach in these areas.
