Dr Ali Alavi completed his undergraduate Neurosurgery training in the United Kingdom in 2016, after working in Cambridge, Birmingham and Nottingham as a clinical research fellow and specialist registrar, since 2007. This was followed by a skull base fellowship at International Neuroscience Institute, in Hannover, Germany. He later gained further experience as a Royal College of Surgeons’ Senior Clinical Fellow in skull base Neurosurgery in Leeds, when in collaboration with Leeds University, he established the Leeds Endoscopic Anterior Skull Base Course. He then spent 6 months as Senior Clinical Fellow in complex spinal surgery at the world-renowned centre for spinal studies and surgery, Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham, before moving to Australia to join the team at ‘Neuron’ in Brisbane as a Consultant Neurosurgeon, in 2018. His main academic interests are in Neuro-trauma, Neuro-imaging and Skull Base Neurosurgery. He was awarded the Pituitary Prize for his research by The Society of British Neurological Surgeons. He is the co-author of “British Neuro-trauma Group Guidance in the Screening and Management of Pituitary Dysfunction Following Traumatic Brain Injury in Adults” and he hopes to further his research into this area in Australia.
