Dr Joannou graduated Medicine from Sydney University in 1979 and attained a graduate certificate in medical acupuncture at Monash University in 2000. In 2010 Dr Joannou undertook advanced acupuncture training under Dr Mikio Sankey (USA) an expanded system of healing which integrates Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Ayurveda, Tibetan medicine and sacred geometry. Dr Joannou is the principal doctor of Northside Health and started his general practice in Coffs Harbour 1982. He has completed a 6 month Mental Health Focused Psychological Strategies course with Interrelate. He is also a Psych-K Facilitator and has training the LifeLine Technique and Touch for Health.
Dr Joannou has a passion for integrative medicine, life-long learning and passing on his knowledge to the next generation of doctors. He hasover 35 years experience as a GP, 18 years as an acupuncturist, 13 as a teacher of GP registrars and 20 years training medical students. In his spare time he loves playing the piano, computer games and watching/reading science fiction and still plays seniors soccer with the Sawtell Scorpions.
