Alan studied Medicine at the University of Queensland and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Medicine and MBBS in 1978.  Alan’s first job was as a Junior Resident Medical Officer at Royal Brisbane Hospital.  Alan has been a GP for 31 years and a Doctor for 35 years. After residency at Royal Brisbane Hospital, Alan spent 2 years working in an Internal Medicine Program at Vancouver General Hospital in British Columbia, Canada.  At the conclusion of the program Alan returned home to pursue a career in rural general practice. Alan spent 12 years in partnership in private medicine in Longreach, Queensland, between 1982 and 1994.  Alan came to Townsville when his children grew old enough to need secondary education and took a job as the inaugural Senior Lecturer in General Practice at the old North Queensland Clinicial School, which subsequently became the School of Medicine at James Cook University. After 3 years at the University, and feeling refreshed Alan returned to fulltime clinical general practice, initially at Northside Family Physicians.  Alan joined IPN in 2008 and became a part of the big amalgamation which led to Townsville Family Medical Centre in June of 2009. Alan’s  main interests are men’s health, office surgery and teaching medical students and young doctors. Alan gets a special kick out of seeing people who are in town visiting from the bush.
