Bethany is a Clinical Psychologist with experience working with clients living with cancer and their families, with students in primary and high school settings, and in private practice.

Bethany completed a Bachelor of Arts (First Class Honours in Psychology), a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology, and a PhD (Clinical Psychology) investigating sex and menstrual phase differences in the cortical processing of emotion and emotion regulation, all at the University of Tasmania. A passionate academic-practitioner in the field of clinical psychology and neuroscience, Bethany divides her time between clinical practice and academic research and writing. She currently holds teaching and research positions at the University of Tasmania.

Bethany offers a range of clinical services including assessment (e.g., cognitive, personality, behavioural), diagnosis,and treatment of a variety of psychological difficulties with children, adolescents, and adults either in an individual or couple therapy setting. Bethany is skilled and knowledgeable in treating various psychological issues including anxiety, stress, depression, self-esteem, and pain management. She has a particular interest in working with clients experiencing trauma, grief and loss, sexual dysfunction, and hoarding problems, and has subsequently completed additional training and supervision in these areas.
Bethany’s way of working is to provide psycho-education and where it is appropriate use one or a combination of evidence-based therapeutic approaches including cognitive behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, schema therapy, dialectical behaviour informed therapy, and psychosexual therapy.
Bethany selects treatment approaches according to the needs of each individual client and takes a flexible approach in adapting the scientific principles of treatment to each person and situation. Bethany is passionate about helping people understand themselves and is committed to providing a space for individuals to feel safe to talk about their problems and needs, be treated with respect, and work together toward achieving their goals in order to feel more empowered in their lives and relationships.
