Avonia completed a Master of Clinical Psychology at The University of Western Australia in 1993. Since graduating, she has worked as a clinical psychologist in public, private, non-government and university services, predominantly with youth (16-25) and adults.
She has expertise in working with anxiety, depression, adjustment following significant life events, eating disorders and work-related stress (including burn-out and bullying). She is inclusive and non-judgemental in her approach; and is skilled in applying a range of therapeutic techniques informed by cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT) and interpersonal neurobiology.
