The Asbestos Victims Association of South Australia (AVA) began - and still is - a not for profit organisation run by volunteers providing support for people living with an asbestos disease, along with family members, carers and friends. This service is offered free of charge every day, at any time of day.

We assist sufferers in both metropolitan and regional areas and hold regular gatherings where victims are able to discuss experiences with one another. For anyone not able to attend, we have a network of telephone contacts.

Since 2000, we have successfully campaigned on behalf of victims for proper compensation and support. We have had some great wins - including the Xenophon legislation to streamline and increase compensation payments to South Australians and of course the successful campaign to get James Hardie to adequately compensate its victims. We are in regular contact with both medical and legal practitioners who advise our members on treatment options and compensation entitlements.

Our additional aim is to eliminate the occurrence of asbestos exposure, thereby reducing the future incidence of asbestos related diseases. To this end, AVA also works to provide up-to-date information to the community about the danger of exposure to any type of asbestos.
