Over his career as a sports physiotherapist, Andrew has accumulated extensive experience and skills in the management of sports injuries, and now specialises in the management of upper and lower limb tendinopathy (Achilles, jumper’s knee, tennis elbow, shoulder impingement, hips and hamstrings and bursitis) along with shoulder conditions of the overhead athlete, both in throwing and swimming sports. He has worked with throwing athletes all his professional career and was himself an elite junior pitcher at national and international level. The cornerstone of Andrew’s management approach is providing the patient with a thorough understanding of the injury, education around exercise and load management and the delivery and progression of the best evidence based exercise protocols for the treatment of these difficult conditions. He works collaboratively and closely with specialist sports physicians, orthopaedic surgeons and sports imaging providers to ensure the delivery of the best possible outcomes for his patients. Andrew has worked extensively with sporting teams at national league level in baseball, basketball, track and field and soccer and with his work through the Regent Street practice has worked extensively with swimmers at local, state and national level. Andrew is currently the Vice Chairman of the board of the Hunter Academy of Sport and has a keen interest in the care and development of young athletes in the Hunter. He has been a physiotherapy consultant to the academy since 1991. Andrew has been a casual educator at the University of Newcastle on the Physiotherapy degree since 2007 and teaches for the APA on sports physiotherapy courses. He is currently participating in research investigating swimmer’s shoulder.
