Robert Leardi (Clinical Psychologist)

Robert is a registered Clinical Psychologist and completed his Masters in Psychology (Clinical) degree from Deakin University in 2011. He has a broad range of clinical interests, particularly in the areas of depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder, emerging borderline personality patterns, trauma, anger and emotion regulation, loss and grief, problem gambling, and adolescent mental health. Through his warm, empathic and accepting nature, Robert spends time developing a strong therapeutic relationship with his clients to form a deep shared understanding of their challenges. He then adopts a client-centered, goal-oriented and collaborative approach to treatment. Robert combines essential psychological principles such as confidentiality, respect and validation with evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), exposure therapy with response prevention, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), solution focused therapy, schema therapy, and principles from the PACE model. Robert is a Medicare provider and is registered to provide services to people with TAC and Work Cover matters. He has worked with clients of various cultural backgrounds and is also skilled in a wide range of psychological tests designed to assess personality, psychopathology, risk of violence, and intelligence and cognitive functioning. He has authored many Court reports and given evidence as a witness. He provides both psychological treatment and assessment services. In addition to his current role Robert currently works as a senior clinician at Take Two (Berry Street) and has worked extensively with adolescents involved in the Child Protection and Youth Justice systems. He previously has experience working in community mental health teams and in adult prisons where he provided both individual and group therapy. He has held research and teaching roles with Turning Point Drug and Alcohol Centre, Monash University, Deakin University, and RMIT University. Robert has won academic awards for his research in problem gambling and has presented at international conferences. He is a member of the Australian Psychological Society, the National Association for Gambling Studies, and the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science.
