CLINICAL INTERESTS Prof Nigel Curtis has broad experience in paediatrics but particularly specialises in both common and rare infectious diseases in children, including recurrent and unusual infections, recurrent fevers, chronic infections, immunisations, tuberculosis, tropical and parasitic infections, and infections in the immunocompromised.
BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE Prof Curtis is Head of Infectious Diseases at the Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne and has over 20 years experience as a specialist in Paediatrics and Infectious Diseases. He is also Professor of Paediatric Infectious Diseases at the University of Melbourne and leads the Infectious Diseases & Microbiology Research Group at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute.
Prof Curtis trained in Cambridge, London and Vancouver, and has also worked for short periods in The Gambia, Zimbabwe and South Africa. He has headed the Infectious Diseases Unit at the RCH Melbourne since 1998.
TRAVEL MEDICINE Prof Curtis is also an experienced travel medicine doctor with expertise in advising children and their families on travel vaccinations and the prevention of malaria and other infections common overseas, as well as infections in the returned traveller
