Jonathan Crowston is the Ringland Anderson Professor of Ophthalmology, University of Melbourne, Managing Director of the Centre for Eye Research Australia (CERA) and a practising glaucoma specialist clinician at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital. He gained his ophthalmology training at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London and was awarded a PhD for work on ocular wound healing at the Institute of Ophthalmology, University College London (2000). He subsequently completed Glaucoma Fellowships Westmead Hospital, Sydney and the Shiley Eye Center, UC San Diego where he then joined the glaucoma faculty, prior to moving to Australia in 2006.

Jonathan is a director on the Centre for Eye Research Australia (CERA) Board (2009+), CERA Technologies P/L (2015) and CT Operations (2015). He is also a director on the Vision CRC Board (2011+), ORIA Board (2008+) and the World Glaucoma Association Board of Governors (2013+). Jonathan’s research is currently focused around ageing and neuroprotection of the optic nerve. In particular the role of mitochondrial dysfunction in optic nerve vulnerability to injury.

He has published over 140 peer-reviewed manuscripts and co-authored three books. Jonathan has received a number of awards for his research and training.
