Professor Alexander Heriot is a consultant colorectal surgeon and Director of Cancer Surgery at Peter MacCallum Cancer centre, Melbourne, Australia.
He has an MD from Cambridge University, England, and was awarded a Doctorate in Medicine from the University of London for research on short course radiotherapy and rectal cancer. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Australasia, England, and Edinburgh, and has an MBA from Melbourne Business School.
He did his general surgical training in London, and undertook specialist colorectal fellowships at St Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne, Australia, St Marks Hospital, London, England, and The Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio.
He is an Honorary Clinical Professor at the University of Melbourne and has published over 100 papers and a book on laparoscopic colorectal surgery. His particular interests are; minimally invasive (keyhole) colorectal surgery; colorectal cancer including management of advanced and recurrent pelvic cancer; inflammatory bowel disease; haemorrhoids including minimally invasive haemorrhoidectomy (HAL-RAR); and colonoscopy.
