Peter Hayton is a clinical psychologist who works with children, adolescents and families – and he is Queensland Paediatric Endocrinology’s ‘healthy and helpful thinking’ go-to guy. Why do we have a psychologist on our team? Evidence shows that preventing and intervening early with mental health and emotional issues can dramatically improve immediate and long-term health outcomes. Peter Hayton’s counselling uses: Cognitive behaviour therapies Acceptance and commitment therapy. He also really ‘gets’ living with an endocrine disorder: his empathy is not book-learned. He’s lived with a person diagnosed as a child with type 1 diabetes for the past 20 years. Principal of Brisbane-based Empower Therapy Peter’s counselling sessions are held at Enoggera and Victoria Point, not at QPE consulting rooms. He completed his Master’s degree in Education at Charles Sturt University and an Honours Degree in Psychology at James Cook University.
