Susan Carey is a clinical neuropsychologist with an interest in neurodegenerative disorders and acquired brain injury.


After completing her training in general psychology at The University of Queensland, Susan obtained her specialist qualification in clinical neuropsychology at University of Melbourne in 2010. During this time, she trained at St Vincent's Hospital, the Austin Hospital, the Royal Children's Hospital, and Peninsula Health. She also conducted research into the neurobiology of substance use. After completing her training she worked at Arbias, a community-based brain injury specialist service, and then worked in the aged care assessment service and the subacute/acute services at Western Health. Susan has been providing expert witness services for criminal and civil matters since 2014, and currently runs her own medicolegal neuropsychology practice.


Susan is an expert in the diagnosis of neurodegenerative disorders and provides expert diagnostic services for clinical trials at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. Susan is a member of the Government of Nauru's mental health expert panel and performs complex mental health assessments with refugees. She has previously worked as a data analysis specialist at the Melbourne Medical School, and she currently lectures in behavioural science at The University of Melbourne. Susan is a full member of the Australian Psychological Society and Fellow of the College of Clinical Neuropsychologists.
