Qualifications: Tim is a registered Psychologist with experience in settings including non-government organisations, public/private hospitals and community clinics. He is currently finalising his research thesis for his Doctor of Psychology (Clinical) at the Queensland University of Technology in the area of Positive Psychology and spirituality. Tim previously completed a Bachelor of Science (Honours in Psychology) and Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Queensland. Approach to Therapy: Tim’s focus is on passing on his knowledge of psychology to clients so that they have a better understanding of their problems and can independently draw upon strategies discussed to address these problems. He has a focus on Positive Psychology, which means that he not only focuses on how to reduce symptoms but also provides interventions that will improve the overall well-being of clients throughout the rest of their lives. Tim incorporates strategies from a variety of approaches (e.g., Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Family Therapy, Solution-focused Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy) to best meet each client’s preferences and goals.

Tim has experience in assisting clients with a broad range of problems. He has specific expertise in assisting clients to manage depression, anxiety, stress and other related problems. Tim has experience in adapting his interventions for a range of areas, including health, workplace, performance/sport and spiritual settings. Health-related problems - Tim has worked in a range of health settings and with a wide variety of medical conditions. Consequently, he understands the unique biological factors that influence the mental health and well-being of individuals who are managing acute and/or chronic health problems, and incorporates this into his interventions. Tim has extensive experience in assisting clients to change health-related behaviours (e.g., diet, exercise, substance use, treatment/medication adherence). Workplace issues/coaching - Tim has many years experience working in business and consultancy environments, where he supported individuals and organisations through improvement and change. He is able to draw upon a combination of psychological, leadership and business principles to support employees or managers to resolve a workplace issue or improve their working environment. Tim can also assist clients in developing as an individual and within their vocation. Performance/sport – Tim has a personal interest sport and music, and has extensive knowledge of how psychology can help individuals who are struggling with their performance. This includes providing strategies to improve performance or assisting with mental health issues that are indirectly affecting performance. Spirituality – Tim has extensive knowledge of the importance of spirituality for many individuals and the impact that this has on mental health. Where clients indicate a preference for a spiritual-based approach, Tim is able to tailor evidence-based interventions to best meet clients’ needs. He has an expertise in working with Christians and drawing comparisons between Biblical and psychological principles; however, Tim develops his interventions based on the client’s own spiritual beliefs and is therefore able to use a spiritual-based approach for clients of all faiths.
