Miss Suzanne Neil is a specialist breast surgeon with a wealth of experience in innovative models of patient care.
She developed the model of co-locating breast surgery with a specialised breast imaging service for rapid diagnosis to alleviate the patient’s anxiety associated with waiting for results. This is the only dedicated private breast imaging service in Melbourne.
Miss Neil was the first breast surgeon to employ a specialised breast care nurse in private practice in response to a perceived need for patient support services. The multidisciplinary meeting to discuss breast cancer management in individual patients in private practice was conceived and developed. This involved coordination of imaging and pathology to plan adjuvant treatment in conjunction with the oncologists and radiotherapists. This model was extended to include psychosocial care for the patient.
She was a founding member of Breast Surgeons ANZ, Psychosocial working group of the National breast and ovarian cancer centre, and active in developing guidelines for psychosocial support for breast cancer patients.
