Lisa Irving has worked in the profession of psychology for over 20 years. She began her first decade of professional work in psychology, working with people with injuries, disabilities and stress conditions. Her second decade involved working in private practice and she specialised in working with people with anxiety, depression, trauma related conditions, as well as people with physical injuries, illnesses and chronic pain. She has also worked with people with eating disorders, hoarding behaviours and relationship, sexual or gender identity issues. She initially worked in the area of vocational rehabilitation, firstly in the government sector, and later for private agencies, enabling her to build experience in working with people with depression, anxiety and trauma, as well as pain management and adjustment to an injury or illness. In 2004 she launched Healthfocus Clinical Psychology Services, a private practice in the Armadale-Kelmscott area and managed the practice until 2015, when she handed the management over to a well-respected colleague. Lisa has trained in a range of therapeutic modalities including cognitive behavioural therapy, mindfulness, gestalt therapy, hypnotherapy and EMDR. Over recent years she has further developed her use of “positive psychology” strategies including hypnosis, mindful meditation and acceptance and commitment therapy. Lisa attended the Happiness Conference in 2013 (achieving a personal happiness goal of being in presence of the Dalai Lama – along with a number of “happiness” speakers), and over the past two years has attended intensive training with Dr Michael Yapko, a clinical psychologist internationally known for his therapeutic skills in hypnosis.
