Dr. Yvette Vella is a general medical and community paediatrician with a special interest in developmental and behavioural child health. She undertook her paediatric training through the Sydney Children’s Hospital Network, which includes hospitals in Sydney, regional NSW and children’s development and disability services in metropolitan Sydney.

Yvette is the Developmental Paediatrician for Northern Intellectual Disability Health, a non government organisation affiliated with the University of Sydney and Northern Sydney Local Health District. In this role she provides care for school aged children with an intellectual disability and other complex diagnosis.

Yvette completed her medical training at the University of Sydney in 2002. She is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. She also holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (Occupational Therapy) and a Masters of Public Health. She is a member of the Neurodevelopmental and Behavioural Paediatric Society of Australasia, Australian Association for Infant Mental Health and the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine.

Yvette has a keen interest in supporting the family in managing significant life changes that come with being a parent, including expectations about breastfeeding and infant behaviour. She considers the importance of the breastfeeding relationship when managing health concerns in babies and children.

Yvette is certified in formal developmental assessment of children and is qualified to administer the Griffiths Mental Development Scales. Referrals for consideration of formal developmental assessment are welcome and will be discussed with parents following an initial consultation.

Yvette has clinical expertise in working with children and adolescents where there are concerns with learning, development and behaviour, including a diagnosis of:

• Developmental Delay • Intellectual Disability • Autistic Spectrum Disorder • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

She believes in working with the family, educators and allied health professionals to achieve the best individual outcome for each child. Yvette has experience working with children placed in Out of Home Care and is happy to act in the role of coordinating general paediatrician for these children. Yvette has worked as a staff specialist at Tumbatin Developmental Clinic at Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick.

Yvette is lucky to be a mum to three beautiful children and she is an active volunteer member with the Australian Breastfeeding Association in her local area.

Dr. Yvette Vella is available for appointments on Tuesday and Friday.
