Dr Yash Gawarikar is a Consultant Neurologist and Senior Staff Specialist at Calvary Public Hospital, Canberra and VMO at Calvary Bruce Private Hospital. He graduated in 1999 from the University of Mumbai and then did a further 3 year post graduate degree in Medicine there. He completed his FRACP and neurology training at Newcastle and Canberra during which he also completed a Stroke Fellowship at John Hunter Hospital, Newcastle under Professor Chris Levi and Professor Mark Parsons. He commenced as a consultant neurologist in Canberra in 2011 and successfully established the Acute Stroke Unit and Service at Calvary public hospital in 2014 and is currently the Director of the Acute stroke service at Calvary. He has also been practicing in neurology private practice at Calvary Clinic and Calvary Private Hospital since 2012 and sees patients with a variety of neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, migraine, headache, Multiple Sclerosis, Motor Neurone Disease and epilepsy. His sub specialty interests are in hyperacute stroke especially advanced multi-modal imaging and thrombolysis and in Movement disorders especially Parkinson’s disease and use of complex treatments (Duodopa and DBS) for advanced PD. Dr Gawarikar is a member of the Australia and New Zealand Association of Neurologists (ANZAN), the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) and the World Stroke Organization (WSO). He is also a member of the Australasian Stroke Trials Network (ASTN) and has a keen interest in acute stroke research and has published in several journals. He is currently the principal investigator at Calvary hospital for TASTE, TEMPO-2, AFFINITY, ATTUNE clinical trials. He is also involved in restructuring of acute stroke services in ACT and is Chair of the ACT Stroke Working Group. He is also a committee member of the Stroke Society of Australasia and a curriculum advisor of the Australasian Stroke Academy. Dr Gawarikar is a Lecturer in neurology at the Australian National University (ANU) medical school and heavily involved in medical undergraduate, basic physician trainees and neurology advanced training programs and has contributed towards developing curricula and course content at the ANU medical school.
